Transferring Engineering Council (UK) Registration

If you are registered at CEng, IEng or EngTech level through another professional engineering institution licensed by the Engineering Council, you can apply to transfer your registration to CIHT so that you pay your annual Engineering Council registration fee through CIHT in future.

Transfer of Registration

If you are considering resigning your membership of the professional engineering institution through which you are registered with the Engineering Council and would like to transfer your professional registration to CIHT, please refer to Sections A and B below. We recommend that you do not resign your membership of your current institution until you have received confirmation from CIHT that your application to transfer your registration has been successful.

If you have only recently paid the current annual registration fee through the institution through which you currently hold registration, you may wish to apply for Additional Membership (see below) until your next registration fee is due and apply to transfer your registration to CIHT at that point.

a) For members registered through ICE, IStructE, IHE or PWI, IAT* and IQ*

The applicant must:

• Complete theTransferring Engineering Council Registration form
• Be a current member of CIHT at Member grade (MCIHT) or above or Associate Member grade (AMCIHT) or above for EngTech
• Provide a detailed CV
• Provide a CPD record which demonstrates a minimum of 25 hours for each of the previous two years prior to the date of application.

* members registered with IAT or IQ must have undertaken their Professional Review with CIHT to be eligible for this route

b) For members registered through another engineering institution

In addition to the requirements listed in a), you will need to:

• Complete the CEng/IEng UK-SPEC Evidence Forms (below) to demonstrate your competence and commitment in a highways and transportation context.

Fee

£25.00  (payable online via your MyCIHT account once an admin check has been completed).

What next?

Your application will be passed to the Chair of the Engineering Professional Standards Panel (EPSP) for consideration. Candidates are usually informed of their application outcome within 6 weeks.

If the transfer is approved:

• The Engineering Council will be notified of the transfer and will update their Register accordingly.
• You will be invoiced by CIHT for Engineering Council fees going forward.

Additional Membership

If you intend to continue paying your registration fees through the current institution through which you hold registration but would like to be professionally registered through CIHT as well, you may wish to consider applying for Additional Membership. This requires you to provide evidence of equivalent competence in a highways and transportation context and demonstrate your commitment to the development and enhancement of transport and infrastructure.

What next?

Your application will be assessed by 2 CIHT reviewers and approved by the EPSP. Candidates are usually informed of their application outcome within 8 weeks. If your Additional Membership application is approved, the Engineering Council will be notified of this and will update their Register.
