At a time when radical change to address the climate change challenge is not a ‘nice to have’, but an essential part of good business practice, we are delighted to support the CIHT to shine a light on best practice in low carbon initiatives across our sector. This issue will impact on all of us, as individuals, and as public and private sector organisations, big and small. We need to come together to tackle this issue – the most important facing ours and future generations, working in partnership to find solutions and new ways of working.

Mott MacDonald kick-started the UK’s fourth largest landowner, and single largest electricity consumer, on a huge decarbonisation journey.
Feeding big-data into customised digital tools, Mott MacDonald identified suitable areas for renewable energy development, assessing land along 20,000 miles of track, and ranked these sites according to multiple factors.
Through Artificial Intelligence, they categorised energy usage at rail sites, matching developable sites to electrical grid capacity, and hourly and seasonal demand.
Mott MacDonald initiated long-term Network Rail goals of cost savings and efficiency, but this project’s real legacy is aiding a significant contribution to UK climate targets and the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
