National Apprenticeship Week provides a great platform for highlighting the important role that apprentices play now and in the future. CIHT will continue to work with government and other parts of the transportation sector to ensure we increase the pathways and routes for apprentices to enter and grow their careers within our profession.
The theme for National Apprenticeship Week 2022 is 'build the future'; reflecting on how apprenticeships can help individuals to develop the skills and knowledge required for a rewarding career, and businesses to develop a talented workforce that is equipped with future-ready skills

Transport is part of everyone’s lives; it connects communities and supports the economy. The highways and transportation industry offers an interesting and exciting range of opportunities that allow you to get involved in all aspects of the building, maintenance, operation, design and planning of transport networks.
Transport Planning Apprenticeships have opened up access to the profession, improved the career prospects for school leavers and decreased the skills shortages within the sector. CIHT was involved in developing the Level 3 Transport Planning Technician Apprenticeship from the outset and we are the only approved End Point Assessment Organisation for this apprenticeship.

We spoke to Mott MacDonald Transport Planning Apprentice Lydia Jennings, AECOM Trainee Technician Hannah Brough, Mott MacDonald Transport Planning Apprentice Aaron Frater and FM Conway Graduate Engineer Vickie Bathe to find out more about their journeys as apprentices in the industry.

“Look into projects that a company has worked on and where you could progress after the apprenticeship, in terms of higher roles they offer.
